Do you know what to do if you can smell gas in your property?

We are going to give you important information if you can smell gas, or suspect there is a gas emergency. We will also go through some gas safety advice.

Gas safety in your home

If you can smell gas, call the gas emergency number on 0800 111 999.

In the event of an emergency

  • Do NOT smoke or light any matches

  • Do NOT turn any electrical sockets or light switches On OR Off

  • Open doors and windows

  • Turn off the meter at the control handle (unless the meter is in a cellar)

  • Call the Cadent emergency number on 0800 111 999

General Gas Safety Advice

  • Get your gas appliance serviced annually by a Gas Safe Registered engineer

  • Always check ID before allowing them in to your house

Signs of a Faulty Boiler/Gas Appliance

  • Soot around the appliance

  • Yellow or orange weak flame instead of a blue flame

  • A pilot light which blows out easily
